if you ever get caught in NY midweek again, and you like deep house check out 2 spots: on sunday nights Neil Aline from Chez Records does a dope night at APT.? don't know if it's always this way, but when i played there they closed the doors at 4 and the party kept going downstairs til way past 6am...alcohol flowing the whole time.? and on wednesadays, Kevin hedge from BLAZE and Louie Vega from MAW have a night at Cielo.? I've played their night too and gotta say it was fun. venue is very warm, and the spot's owned by dj's so they put some work into their system.
if you really want something dope and different, check Francois K's DeepSpace night at cielo...dubby, dark...quality music.? was on Mondays...pretty sure it still is.
you're right though, aside from these 3, most good things pop on the weekends.

I would take the suggestion I got from Salvador Aceves:

I was in New York last week on business, stayed in Mid Town Manhattan off of
51st and Lexington - right by the E and the 6. I had never been but found
it really easy to get around and go. Word is that people from NY are rude
and perhaps they are, I found them to just always be in a rush and generally
curt, but I wouldn't say rude.
Most of you don't care but I flew into JFK and took the E train to Manhattan
from Jamaica Queens. I say this because I was wary of the subway but really
it's just a bus underground. If you can find a cross street and a map you
shouldn't be truly lost, just keep a level head. I guess there are sketchy
parts but I had zero problem below Central Park past midnight on the nights
I was out.
I came in on a Sunday and left on a Thursday. This is the wrong part of the
week for partying as everything I found to do party wise was mostly on the
weekend, especially in mid-town. If kicking it in a bar is your thing then
any night is good...
Take the 6 or the V train to the East Village and check out Dance Tracks. I
walked in, asked what was going on in the area and was pointed to several
clubs and undergrounds for later in the week. It was my bad for going
earlier but if you're there on the weekend you should find plenty to do.
(Oh, there's this great little Basque restaurant for tapas and the like one
street over on 4th - Euskadi -http://www.euzkadirestaurant.com/)
