In 1999 things in the underground house scene were a bit weird. The bigges
house event was going rave (Melodic) one of the best underground promoters
was concentrating on her club (sue dread w/ release) the underground house
scene was hurting. Yes there were still parties but nothing tht was
consistant. Even Doc was not doing so many parties.
I remember sitting there with fabian discussing. We were like "Someone
needs to take the formula of melodic and expand. Include some locals but
always have that one sick resident DJ." As we discussed it further
suddenly it dawned on us. We had to throw this party and we had to keep it
consistent.
What was the name of this party going to be? Who was the sick resident DJ?
Well I could DJ sourta. My favorite local at the time was Jamie Thinnes.
But who were we going to get to pull a crowd? hmmmmn
We start throwing names in the air "Mark Grant." naaah too deep "Sameer
from chocolate factory?" hmmn maybe... "Jeno" no he is too moody.... hmmn
"solar? Galen?" a duo is too expensice. So we kept trying it.... Then one
day we are driving to work and we just happened to pop in the "Diz Live @
melodic" tape. We loved that tape/set. DIZ!~!! It has to be DIZ!!!! A
quick call to Len Sobeck (RIP) and he gives us Diz's home number. Here we
are two little 23 year old kids calling a big chicago DJ. We were nervous.
"Hi uhhh.... is this Diz..... uuuuuuh we want you to come and play in
uhhhhh la for us... uhhh are you up for it?"
Not only was he up for it but he was the coolest guy about it... And liked
the Idea of having a residency in LA
We had our RESIDENT. We had our locals...... Jamie Thinnes & Me (I'm
cade)... So we had one more slot to fill.
One friday night we drove down to Hunnington Beach. Wally Callario had a
studio down there and he was having a get together with some DJs.. We got
down there and there was about 70 people there. Thomas WHite and Pete
Williams were there. Good guys and they had just put out a record that was
doing very well (The Jive EP) they were pretty excited because they were
goingto do a live set this night as "Natural Rhythm."
SO they go on. they killed it.. and the crowd there was really into it..
Fabian and I were dancing and haveing a blast and suddenly it dawned on us.
Natural Rythm should be the one to fill our open slot!!!
Suddenly jamie had to go out of town and suggested we have John Howard play
in his place instead....
THe first DYnagroove in 1999 had the following line up
Cade
Natural Rhythm
John Howard
Diz
Then next one was
Jamie Thinnes
Dazy
Buck
Diz
Then the big party
Jamie thinnes
King Britt
Diz
All of these were at the Spanish Kitchen .. which is now a steakhouse
surrounded by Condos
Anyway the point I am trying to get at is that Dynagroove is going back to
some of it's roots.
I am really excited for the 9 year Anniversary line up.
Natural Rhythm has not done a live show in 6 years!!!!!!
Jamie Has not Played a Dyna in 2
Diz has recently returned
I believe the moons have aligned to make a sensational event.
