Unbeknownst to many, there is a good time to be had on Monday nights, and
it entails more than a bucket of fried chicken and an episode of I Love
New York. Besides, with our favorite reality show finally at a close, it's
about time that you get your ass off the couch, grow some facial hair (you
too, girls!), and head downtown for what has become the only reason to
leave your house before Tuesday. Mustache Mondays is one of the most
exciting events L.A. has seen in years. It's not easy to throw an
entertaining party on Monday night, but Nacho Biz, with DJs Josh Peace,
Dino Dinco and Total Freedom, has certainly discovered the formula. An
even bigger feat may be drawing such an outgoing and fun-seeking crowd to
the middle of downtown on a school night. As strange as it may sound, the
crowd at Mustache Mondays is one of the best you'll see out all week,
comprised of members of every scene imaginable. And nowhere other than
this party are the various clans of gay L.A. nightlife more upfront and
visible; lined up at the bar you'll find plenty of East L.A. hipsters,
often ignoring advances from a New York art-fag type, Silver Lake daddy,
or a WeHo clotheshorse. As diverse as the crowd may be, nearly all have
come for the amazing tracks they have learned to expect from Peace and
Dinco, which Dinco refers to as a mix of old-school house, electro, new
wave and “hot, hot drag queen anthems.” Whatever the DJs decide to blare
from the speakers, you can rest assured that it will be something fun and
danceable, guaranteed to keep you out on the dance floor until 2 a.m.
Other drawing points are the midnight performances, mixtures of dance,
song and performance art, which may run a little behind schedule, but
never fail to amaze. If anything demonstrates the drawing power of
Mustache Mondays, it would be the loyalty of its core crowd, willing to
follow the party around the downtown area. The event has taken place at
both Crash Mansion L.A. and Charlie O's, both amazing venues from back in
the day that apparently still know how to host a good time. Before heading
out the door, be sure to find out the definite party locale on the
