Brett Cade and Others paying attention,
Yeah it is kind of Boogus that they are using the name "MELODIC"
but if they have asked Alvaro and he stamped his seal of approval then let
them go for it.
I think as far as name stealing goes it happens what are you gonna do sue
them?
We have been doing Gravity for years
and did a weekly for years that moved
around a lot called Electric.
As far a word goes like: electric, motion, release, deep funk, melodic ...
especially if it describes the music best, I can't say from a marketing
stand point that it is a bad idea.
(re: the deep funk reference: record label vs. a party called is really
different. Juxtapose a situation: do you really think that minds that think
alike (i.e. listen to the same type of music) can't come up with the same
idea for a label or a party) We in LA aren't the first people in the world
to think up names at different times or the same time or what have you.
Anyways back to the grind,
Lucas

Brett,
I completely agree with you. I have seen this happen time and time again.
I even watched as my own "Motion" name was taken and turned into a club. I
saw this Melodic and was a bit disappointed. I know Sam and Sue work
together and I am surprised that this name is being used. Since Sue has run
into problems with the Release and Balance names both from promoters in
other cities. However is their a statute of limitations? Like if you don't
use a name for 5 years is it free for the taking?
These things have been going on for as long as I can remember one of the
most notorious name thefts was "Deep Funk." Where Louis was doing his Deep
Funk parties for years and some shady cats from out of town move in decide
to start "Deep Funk Records" and start doing parties under the name "Deep
Funk." It was blatant, rude, disrespectful, shady, and fucked up all rolled
up into one.
I don't think Sam is really doing what the Deep Funk guys did. However I am
sure he has been around long enough to know of melodic's existence if not
been to some of their events. Is the statute of limitations up? Did he
get permission? Either way no one is going to stop it. It may just become
annoying to explain the difference in the "Melodic's" unfortunately.
Has anyone used "Bang the drum", "Stompy-LA", "ONE", "Citrasonic",
"Citrasoul", "Love", "Circa", "Depth Perception", "Grape-Ape" or any other
names in the last 5 years? If not there are some good club names for you.
The statute of limitations are up! lol
