House is not dying... has anyone on this list gone out in another major city lately? If not, you should feel good that house dominates the dance and lounge scenes in places like New York, Chicago, Atlanta, S.F. etc. because it is intelligent, cool, and crosses all borders in terms of the type of people that listen to it or dance to it. Where I am from, everyone likes going out and we will hit up 3-4 places and afterhours in any given night. All places have a house DJ. Everyone listens to house whether it's piped in as background beats in a bar or restaurant, or if it's a full on dance event. If house music is dying, then lounges are dying too...yeah, fat chance of people getting tired of looking pretty and drinking cocktails! Not to mention, house is strong in Europe.

the major difference why people may be a bit jaded here or tired of the L.A. house "scene" is that there are just so many choices in any given night that it seems to make the crowd smaller. We are in Hollywood after all, and our location makes it attractive to many of the best DJ's in the world, house or not. In the scene, there are your Doc fans, there are your Lillyanne fans, and there are your international house DJ's. Is that all house? The scene gets split up and we don't just all meet up at one afterhours at 4AM cuz there's so many things to do, or we just spent all our money at something earlier.

Other choices can be very played out or unencouraging because they are so popular that it seems to have lost it's soul no matter how good the DJ (i.e. Avalon, Deep, Circus, etc.). If you end up going to something like that earlier, you are probably broke enough to not consider going to another $30 party. Also there are a lot of juxtapositions here. Take for example the Space Island 1/2 house 1/2 Burning Man party a few months ago. Was that a house party, or a Burner event? So, would that be house dying because it's not a pure househead event and another "scene" is there? did it deter heads from showing up? absolutely.

If you take it completely underground, things get a bit grungy, and not everyone can hang in that scene no matter how much they like house. Keep in mind that your perceptions of fewer househeads out or the scene "dying" is totally skewed to your limited choice of what you chose to go to for the night. If you were to party hop (which costs less in other towns) you'd see that house is definitely alive.

I'll leave you with this, If house is dying, why does it seem that all of San Francisco has relocated or co-located to LA in the past few years???

House 4ever!
