I judge any party based on three criteria, in order of importance:
1. Talent
2. Sound
3. Venue
In my opinion, Dynagroove scored top marks on all three criteria.
Talent:
Jose, well done. Ditto Zoki's remarks. You played one track in
particular that BLEW MY MIND. I really wish I had trainspotted so I would
know which one to comment about. It had limited vocals (some "wooooo"'s)
and some lovely chords, and classic house percussion, which for me, is the
most important element in a dance track.
Cade, I realized a minute or two into your set that that I haven't heard
you play records in quite some time! As Diz's usual chauffeur, I don't
usually get to Dynagroove until after you've played. I really dug your
set, especially that one Timbaland remix we talked about later in the
night. Who was the remixer again?? I think you should play this time slot
more often.
Honey Claws: These boys had SO much energy that I couldn't help but like
them. I didn't really get to pay a lot of attention to their set because
I had to step in as co-bartender, but what I did catch I thought was
really interesting. I have to give Cade props for taking a risk and
booking something other than "funky house" ;) I think it's fantastic that
so many people were open to something different. I am ALL for "live"
ANYTHING so I say keep the live acts coming, Cade!
And the Dizzard: I was teasing Diz earlier in the day about being curious
about how sobriety would impact his set. He seemed so focused and so on
point. As usual, his mixing was flawless and he simply played records
that made me dance. What more could I ask for?
Sound:
The "four corners" set up wins again! If all promoters took sound as
seriously as Cade does, I'd write a lot more positive reviews. Not too
high or low, not too loud or soft. Just right.
Venue:
That place is awesome. It really felt like home to me. And when the big
door opened I was just elated. I did come dressed to sweat, as Cade
recommended, but that breeze was just heavenly.
Misc:
I have a new respect for bartenders. The last time I worked the bar at
Dynagroove was way back when we only had kegs! THANK YOU to the gentlemen
who did not harass me. I hope that the ones who did are not on this
list...
I really enjoyed Dynagroove and am looking fwd to the next one. Cade, I
think you should give yourself some time off to find another great live
act.
Rock on,
Amy Ricketts
