Indeed, amy, I'll have to agree, Gravity was great, and I appreciate your
kind words. It was an honor for me to play with such a line-up, and be able
to participate in the evening. This was a first time playing for lucas and I
was thrilled when he asked.
But I have to be honest, I was having a hard time at the beginning of my
set, thankfully my only audience were the laughing sound techs and security
guards. I'll just say this- I've never been a fan of the Rane rotary mixer.
Yes, the sound and action are like butta, but all those knobs? Cuing tracks
became problematic, dead air, yeah it was not good. I wanted to cry at one
point. But surprisingly as more heads showed up, (the smokier it got) the
more comfortable I got, and ended up having a really enjoyable time playing
in that second room.
Afterwards I ran into the main room to hear eddie b's set, and I've got to
give it up for the man. In my personal opinion, I feel like he was the hero
of the night. Yes, he's a personal friend, no , I've never heard him play as
well as he did on Saturday. He killed it ! He got that crowd going. I'm not
sure anyone was ready for eddie. I could not stop shakin my ass. Sweating,
and hooting and hollering . One track after another, heaters. Old tracks,
new shit I hadn't heard, funky, bassy, wobbly, jackin , and groovin'. Eddie
owned those decks.
Fiasco came on and immediately started doing his signature tequila shots
while at the helm. He totally picked up where eddie left off with out any
hang ups. I feel fiasco was on FIRE also, and again, I've never seen him
play as well as he did Saturday night. The music was fun, and the mixing was
borderline flawless. It was all consistent. It was enjoyable to watch both
fiasco and the crowd. I love that venue as well. It gets so fuckin' hype in
there , and is legit underground business that los angeles in known for. The
graffiti, the stickers, the location, the music ripping thru both rooms ,
without any sound bleed I might add, the smiling faces. Mr fiasco had that
loft shakin with latin shit and chicago shit. And the boot of "we don't have
to take our clothes off to have a good time (no no)" - i was feelin ' it!
I found it impossible to stop dancing. Which is sort of unfortunate because
I got so caught up I ended up missing theory's set. I was anticipating it so
much , but the music and booze were workin', it was tough to leave my post.
Kids love the spacey disco shit. And the option of having two rooms, with
two styles of music catered to everyone it seemed . Wolfy was smiling and
working that little room over. I felt like I was on another planet.
And that was my cue to exit.
All in all, it was a stellar night. It's beyond awesome to see LA heads
congregate, socialize and dance . I really appreciate this city .
Big ups lucas , becky and the distant beat crew, ultraviolet serving drinks,
and all who helped do the damn thing.
Pssst Dynagroove this Saturday.
Xoxo
