I see your point, but by your logic you could just as well say that
everything is disco than that everything is house. Going back further,
you could say that everything is soul music, etc. etc. going back
forever. Everything comes from somewhere, but there is a point where
things become distinct from their influences.

I do think it's pretty reasonable to say that house *is* disco (more or
less), or at least a direct offshoot. I think D&B is a little more
removed from house, even if it's influcenced by it quite a bit -- to me,
it's a bit of a stretch to say that d&b "is" house. D&B has influences
(both direct and indirect) from a number of genres, including house,
hip-hop, techno, reggae, funk / soul / R&B.

Drastically over-simplified, and I'm sure someone will find some
inacuracies or missing stuff, but, all the different genres / sub-genres
(more or less specific) are connected in one way or another.

(items in parens are things I'd consider sub-genres rather than genres)

That's not to say that I don't think the electronic music world is a
little too quick to stick everything into tiny little compartments
("darkstep breakcore", etc.), but D&B pretty clearly doesn't share some
things that are basic characteristics of (most) house / garage music.
