Ok, this isn't house related. However, it has everything to do with the
dynagroove list and the digest.
As a fan of house music and someone who enjoys frequenting underground
events and parties, I rely on this list for a lot of my weekend/ monthly
activities. I have for quite some time. I often submit reviews of parties
and even post events I'm excited about or involved in.
Before submitting to the list though, I try to do something prior to hitting
send- I spell check. It's quick and easy. It's something I suggest many
promoters or submitters do before posting to the list. In my opinion,
generally, if posts appear smart or well-written , perhaps more people will
be prone to attend those parties; knowing the promoter is head strong, and
somewhat capable of making smart decisions.
That's not to say all of my submissions have been perfect. I know they
haven't been. Yes, there have been misspellings and bad grammar, I realize
we're not trying to win a Pulitzer here. But with the invention of the
blackberry and the iphone, readers are now able to check the digest and
haphazardly respond to an entry, while sitting in traffic, driving, hiking,
bathing, you name it. I'm not sure if either of these devices come with
spell check but damn people.
Why should I be subjected consistently, several times a week, to a slew of
awful grammar and sophomoric spelling mistakes? Quite honestly, as a regular
reader, I often feel stupid after reading some submissions.
I know I sound like a pompous douche-bag, but I'm only suggesting spell
check, and putting more thought into what is written for a public forum such
as this. Maybe it's not a big deal to most, maybe I'm just embarrassed for
some. Call it what you want. But I feel those entries that are one sentence,
inside jokes, shot up with spelling mistakes are making me want to avoid the
list altogether.
Unfortunately, mobile devices are trivializing what goes onto this list, and
as a reader, and writer I think it blows.
As ever,
Chuck
