<P>well i think i had one day of rest but...it's all about alliteration dangit! anyway...i started last wednesday at release yo'se'f to see iz and check out justin harris. they both played some delicious sounds but i wish they would have each played their own set instead of switching off. that is just my preference--i feel like the flow is disturbed that way. brett johnson's remix of 'i'm satisfied' got me on the floor, but the usher remix--girl, that sent me out the door. <IMG src="http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys/j.gif"> </P>
<P>thursday--ECB at honey and shaunna's birthday celebration! i got there to see luke at the height of his set--incendiary! and soon after, ECB jumped on and got to WORK. funky basslines, groovy tracks all around. and that 'one thing' --lawnchair generals' that is. </P>
<P>friday at free thinking was a great night. it was too bad that jonene couldn't make it but duane held it down great and diz was a nice surprise. i never really made it out to the patio but it seems like i missed some good choons. </P>
<P>saturday i did something a bit different and went to see richie hawtin and sven horvath at circus. normally i would never go to a megaclub on amateur night but we were listed so that made it somewhat ok. richie is an excellent dj. he had final scratch up and also a sampler as well as his 4 or so crates of records. the problem was the sound was kinda wack. no mids or highs so a lot of what i heard/felt was just the drums banging away. i like me some techno, but i need to hear the smaller subdivisions of the beat or else i get bored. i got up by the booth so i could hear the monitors at least.</P>
<P>sunday well i wanted to head to deep to see jojo and osunlade but i just couldn't get out the door of my house. i heard mixed reviews but i have a feeling i missed a good night.</P>
<P>last night at twister!!!! a preface here: often i consider an artist's personality as valuable as his or her talents. it disappoints me when a highly talented artist has an inflated ego and is condescending to his fans. that being said, i'd like to laud joplin not only for her fierce talents as a dj, but for also being humble and gracious about them. so yep, joplin rocked it--i see a bright future for her in 2003 (and beyond!) tony watson--this was the first time i'd seen him i think. he played some great tracks. i was looking forward to hearing paul play, and it turned out that he and tony were switching off. (see wed. review for my thoughts on that) paul played an interesting combo of latin guitar tracks and electro-y sounds. i heard tony play one track twice i think? the one he started with. i heard that is his thing though. ;) it was a good track, and there was almost a whole different crowd in there the second time anyway. the crowd was the biggest i'd seen it i think. oh yeah, and you KNOW your club has 'made it' when kids show up with glowsticks. bwahahahaha.</P>
