I believe the club you're referring to is called "Estate" now. It used to be club Limelight. A little more than a year ago it shut down because of a major drug bust and all sorts of money problems. It was one of the original clubs to have "foam parties." I was there back in 95 and it was kinda scary, honestly. I personally think the decor there is better than the music. It's very flash, with not much house substance, imho.

I can say that when I was in NY just recently I found that house was around, just not the kind of house I like. Club Spa is an snooty club that I went to and they were playing a lot of progressive house and tribal shit, with an R & B room as well. Then I went to another club (which the name escapes me as I was pretty damn tipsy off my $14 vodka redbull-I shit you not.) and they played more tribal/trancy house, but they had 4 live musicians there: A saxophonist standing on top of the bar, and three conga players! That was cool. But it was more of a lounge, there wasn't any real dance floor.

The China Club is where we held our auditions out there. It used to be the shit, but now it's just shit (music & vibe wise.)

What was depressing is that club Arc (formerly Vinyl) was closed when I was there. I wanted to get an extra helping of Franscois K!

I'm by no means saying I'm an authority on the NY house scene, I just know that when I was there it seemed to be a lot more about flash, than vibe and everything that goes with that. I prefer LA's options, personally. =)
Really? cuz my friend who just came back from a NY trip was telling me about all these crazy ass clubs there...seems like house is more "popular" there...like this one party he went was held in a sanctuary or cathedral...they were playing house inside, smoking..the dj was rotating in the middle up in the air...i just really had no commnet about this...it seems pretty crazy though...Anybody been too this yet?

I spent the weekend in New York with a good friend who is a DJ and has two clubs and let me just say, I think we are so spoiled here. The people of New York were awesome but the music left me yearning for home. I love our scene and am so happy to be a part of it!
