How about the style of fighting from MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, where
King Arthur fights the Black Knight. Wonderfully awkward battle!!!
In the late 80's I gamemastered a D&D-based RPG where I let characters take
their favorite character from any game system, any game world. I had D&D
characters mixing with Champions, Paranoia, Boot Hill (old west), Call of
Cthulhu, even Battletech (what a shame technological items fizzle after a few
hours, real pity, snicker snicker). I then threw this ragtag mess into a
medieval-technology town that was at a nexus of realities.
I know, I know, I'll try and get to the point.
My friend Dave asked if he could create a D&D ranger based on STOMPER from
BORED OF THE RINGS. As a point of style and roleplaying, anytime he rolled a
HIT, he described an action that SHOULD have been a miss but accidentally
hit, (swung over the guys head but tripped and accidentally sliced him on the
downswing). Misses were described as shots that really SHOULD have hit,
except the target sneezed and ducked under it or some other three stooges
move.
Hmmm, if you REALLY want inspiration for a GROO battle scene, start watching
THE THREE STOOGES!!!
