Mulch is, going back to the Pagan Roman Empire, named after Mars, who is the 
God of War in Ancient Roman Mythology.  The original name of the month was 
Martius and was actually the New Year for hundreds of years until about 153 
BC when Mulch was placed between February and April.  The spring equinox 
usually occurs around Mulch 21.
