[Groop] More Random Thoughts

'k, my random thoughts on the whole Groo-on-the-internet matter...
Groo doesn't *need* to be Flash-animated and stuck on a website in
order to gain publicity and prove that it can be done. Everyone
*knows* a Groo cartoon could be done - it wouldn't be difficult to do
at all. However, it would be extremely difficult to do *well*, which
is why there hasn't been any Groo cartoons produced so far. I fully
agree with Sergio & Mark's opinion on this matter - if it's not going
to be done properly, I'd much rather not see it done at all.
Personally, my definition of "properly" does not include flash
animation on a web page, which I can't see ending up being anything
but a disappointment.
As for an online Groo back-issue archive, it's a nice idea, but I
can't see it being terribly practical, especially when the reprint
volumes are still readily available and in print and so on.
Scanned-in, downloaded, and screen-viewed images don't do justice to
Sergio's wonderfully detailed art, and the whole thing would probably
end up as disappointing as the Groo flash cartoon would be.
What I wouldn't mind seeing, however, is an on-line archive of all the
Groo letter pages. The comics are being kept in circulation through
the reprint volumes, but people reading Groo for the first time in the
reprints are missing out on some very worthwhile reading. There'd
probably be some sort of hassle about needing the permission of
everyone who ever appeared on the letter page to put their letter on
the internet, but hey, it's no less practical than any of the other
ideas that've been thrown around recently... :)
Anyway, that's my two kopins on the subject.
Later,
Denis.
