Thanks, Josh, I just wanted to understand the jargon, I figured it was
something like that.
I guess this qualifies as a Grooism, so I'll summarize what happened and send
this to the Groop as well.
I decided to send the same email to everyone in my address book wishing them
a happy holidays, which was decidedly impersonal of me, and it got bounced
back to me with a message saying it was being held (automatically) until the
moderator (Josh) could review its contents, and I guess make sure it's not
spam. It also said:
>> >The reason it is being held:
>> > Implicit destination
>> >
>> >Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive
>> >notification of the moderator's decision.
To which I responded:
>> Okay, I'll bite... what does IMPLICIT DESTINATION mean?
So I got my just desserts for sending out the same rubber stamp holiday
greeting email to everyone I know!!!
I thought I was being clever by going with a "bcc" (blind carbon copy); see,
I hate getting those emails with a huge Who's Who listing of everyone else
who's getting it, and I have occasionally had strangers contact me for the
simple reason that we both received the same email from the same source, so I
thought this would protect the confidentiality of my diverse friends' email
addresses.
DID I ERR???
As my friend Arthur used to always say: "What did we learn from this, Larry?"
1. Don't bcc a list (oooh, sounds so TECHNICAL)
2. Send people sincere greetings individually or not at all.
3. Always wear pants while sitting on a metal folding chair.
