Hi Folks!
I certainly hope that everyone's reaction to the increased price is
"Bigdeal!" I mean I suppose it might affect little kids, but geez, 55 more
cents? Of course, I remember Mark telling us in Groo Grams something about
a guy sending a bunch of letters, using 29 cent stamps, to complain to Mark
about a 25 cent increase in the price of an Epic Groo!!!
Mark, is the cover art on the Fanboy TPB the same art that was used on the
Spanish version? If so, it is a great piece. Of course, what else could it
be?
And whohoo to a bigger room for the Groo Panel! People were turned away
last year! It all seems to be part of a conspiracy to keep Groo out of the
mainstream!!! Comic store owners won't order more than will sell off the
rack in 10 seconds because funny books "don't sell." The powers that be in
animation won't give Mark & Sergio what they want to produce a great
cartoon, and even the San Diego Comic Con folks didn't think there were
enough Groo fans to fill up a larger room! ARRGGHHHH!!!! We need to come
up with a counter conspiracy!!!!!
Oh, yeah, to answer a couple questions: The card that came with the new &
improved version of the Life of Groo was called a "book plate" by the Bud
Plant folks who had it made. It seems they bought a big hunk of the
books, arranged with Sergio for the bookplate art, and then sold the book
with bookplate out of their catalogue. So if you got a bookplate in your
Life of Groo, it was originally purchased through Bud Plant. I don't know
how many were made. I found out about the bookplate a year or so after the
fact and Bud Plant had some extras and sold me one.
Also, someone said something about the Lunch Box and a post card. All the
lunch boxes have a postcard inside. Another bonus, courtesy of Sergio &
Mark!!! Some of us lunch box folks have tried to get an exchange going, but
I think we are all afraid of the post office! I have 2 lunch boxes and I
had one of the postcards with me at San Diego and Sergio very kindly drew a
little picture on it, incorporating the picture on the stamp, and then I
sent it to myself. Chakaal's head got postmarked a little, but it is still
way, way cool!
Take care all -Gary G.
