Gary...

Following what I said earlier you are out of luck for a 1979 Sixpence as
they stopped minting them in 1970 when this Decimilization thing was imposed
upon our fair isle. Apparently sixpence became worth 2.5 pence (go
figure!)and there is therefore no modern equivalent.

I can however offer you a choice of sixpences from the following years:

1948
1951
1958
1959 (not in good condition)
1960
1963
1964
1966

If any of these years are of meaning to you send me your address and Ill
mail it to you.

Regards
Mark

I shall raid various jars I know my Mum has stashed in their house somewhere
(I shall tell her first of course....) and will let you know.

And in Britain its: "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed,
Something Blue"
and being kissed by grubby looking chmney sweeps and having loose change in
your shoes are added bonuses !

When the long suffering Mrs B and I got married I made the mistake of
telling my best man that I had been wearing my wifes wedding shoes to try
and stretch them a little for her as they were a bit tight. This is a
confession I would not recommend, as one of the subjects of his speech
centered around what he beleived was my new found love of cross-dressing.
Some of my relatives still look at me strangely.

What I have realised is that the little ryhme changes meaning once you have
got married:

BEFORE:
OLD was what our parents are.
NEW was our love.
BORROWED was the time we spent with each other.
BLUE was our love also !

AFTER:

Now my Wife looks really OLD.
We get a NEW bill every month.
The money we used to get married with was BORROWED.
and BLUE is the colour of the air when the bills arrive.

Still wouldnt change it for the world.

Attention British Isle & Australian Groopies!

I have a favor (or is that favour?) to ask. Could one of you find me a 1979
sixpence? It's for my son's wedding. ("Something borrowed, something blue,
and a sixpence in your shoe.") I suggested "Something borrowed, something
Groo, and a lead miniature in your shoe.", but that didn't go over too well.
1979 was the year they were both born. Thanks and take care -Gary G.
