Hi Folks!
Once I told Sergio that the only cartoonists who are famous enough to be =
known to the average man on the street are the syndicated cartoonists =
like Charles Schultz, Gary Larson, etc. and that he could whip off a one =
panel cartoon or a wordless strip once per day indefinitely without =
missing a beat, so why didn't he ever do that. He agreed that he could =
do it, but gave a two-part answer as to why he had not. =20
First, he said, newspaper editors don't like wordless gags, some of =
Larson's not withstanding. They (the editors) say their readers want =
something they can glance at, read the caption, and move on as opposed =
to something they have to look at and think about. =20
Second, he said he didn't want to be that famous. He said when you are =
as famous as Gary Larson or Matt Groenig, people always bother you. He =
said he is quite happy with his particular level of fame. =20
So that's pretty much that. Take care all -Gary G. =20

it wouldnt' leave sergio much time for other things, i'm sure, but =
it still would be cool=20
I'm not so sure... you see, I'm happy that the Spy vs. Spy sunday is =
starting, because that formula lends itself well to the strip format. =
But I'm not so sure how Groo would do there... I'm sure Sergio could =
pull it off, but I think Sergio's style would lend itself more to do =
doing miscellaneous gag cartoons, which lend themselves to the shorter =
format.
And besides, it would take away from his time to draw those wonderful, =
larger comics. If your local newspaper didn't carry the strip and he =
didn't do the comics any longer, it would be a bit of a drag, don'tcha =
think?
