[Groop]Some comic reviews...

(and a couple questions for Mark buried in there too.)

Hi Folks!

I can't wait to see Sergio in beads! Kaytee does great work! And I
certainly hope there is SOME mention of Groo's 20th anniversary in the Con
program.

Mark, do you know of any other comic, besides Cerebus, that has had the same
creative team for 154 regular issues, 1 special, 2 graphic novels, and 7
shorts over 20 years? (OK, so Tom wasn't in on the first few issues and
needed a sub sometimes, but it's close enough)

As for Death & Taxes, I think it's great! I agree with everything Ruben
said. (Don't want to give any spoilers) I can't wait for #3 & #4. But who
is that lunatic that was mentioned a couple times in Groo Grams?

Picking a favorite of the mini-series would be tough, because I love them
all. It's like going to Baskin Robbins with a chocolate craving and trying
to decide which kind of chocolate ice cream to have. But if I had to pick a
favorite at this point, it would be Mightier Than the Sword for two reasons.
It had Pipal Khan and the story gave Sergio the opportunity to do some
really outrageous, extra fabulous art work. I just could never get enough
of that Pipal. I'm sorry he 's dead, although his death and the reason for
it were perfect irony. Usually the most I can get from my wife from a Groo
reading is a polite chuckle. But Pipal dialogue put her on the floor with
laughter!

Mark, I don't know how things work for a comedy writer, but once you decided
to have Pipal talk like Elmer Fudd, did that make the dialogue easier to
write, harder, or the same, from a being funny standpoint? I would think it
might make it easier because things that were not necessarily funny
normally, are when spoken in fudeese, but I don't know what I'm talking
about.

Now folks might wonder, why is old Dessesbo talking about Mightier Than the
Sword this long after it came out and in the middle of the new miniseries?
Well, because we never talk much detail about the new mini-series when it's
first out because it's months before some folks get it and we don't want
spoilers everywhere. And also because the Mightier Than The Sword Trade
Paperback is coming out This Month!!!!! (and probably before the Life/Death
of Groo)

Take care all -Gary G.

Comic Con International Update #1:
On page 4, there's a photo of Sergio at his booth at Wondercon 2001 -
any Groopies in there? And on page 37, there's a photo of the Groo
costume by Buck and Lin Steele that won $200 from Dark Horse at CCI 2001.

But, there is no mention that this is the 20th Anniversary of Groo!! Of
course, there is no mention that it is the 100th Anniversary of Peter
Rabbit, either....

Announcement: I am entering the Art Show again.... The main piece will be a
beaded portrait of our favorite comic artist.... Mark already approved the
project.... (I am announcing this so I will feel obligated to get it
finished -- it's going to take over 100 hours, judging from how long it's
taken already).
