~~~ That's actually not far off. There's a part of the comics culture who,
like it or not, is in it for what perk they can score from you that "no one
else has". Even if they don't know who you are. I think Ruben's example
is a bit extreme. But the best policy I've found, is to be cordial to
everyone until they give you a reason not to be. No one. (I repeat, no
one) should expect anything extra from a comic creator just because they're
standing in front of them. Should you ask for a sketch? If you really
want one, yeah. But be nice. Think of it from the creator's
perspective: Many fans believe they share some sort of bond with the
creator because they've read all 87 issues of THE AMAZING MARMOT. But the
second you stand in front of that creator, he/she has never seen you
before, doesn't have any bond with you, didn't realize you existed until
that point. Perhaps it's a familiarity issue? The fan comes to the table
feeling some connection. The creator is meeting the fan for the first
time. That's too very different "first impressions".
