That question was addressed on the recently released "Stan Lee's Monsters,
Mutants, and Marvels" (did I get that title right?) which are a couple of
long conversations between Stan Lee and Kevin Smith. Stan said that when the
show was being written, the networks thought the name "Bruce" was too
effeminate and changed it to David. When Stan brought it up, they made
"Bruce" his middle name.
