Hi Folks!
Well, thanks to computer problems and the real world I fell off the daily
STUPID Groo Facts. I'm sure this was a relief to most of you. I was hoping
to be further along in compiling some of my STUPID Groo facts but, alas,
there are only so many Groo hours available. But I'll come up with more
soon. Mostly right now I can give you many STUPID Groo facts about Groo
Grams, repeating characters, and total pages and stories. What I don't have
are things like what Chad was working on: # of ships sunk, stuff like that.
to Thomas Gatto: There is only one American hardbound edition of Groo and
it is the Groo Chronicles. The Death/Life of Groo will make it two.
(Unless of course I'm all screwed up, which is always a possibility)
The WonderCon photos are great! I'm glad you all had a great time. Mark!!!
PLEEEEEASE have that fast draw exhibition at San Diego! Pretty please?
What if I promise not to do anymore STUPID Groo Facts? (And if you auction
off the drawings, I promise to jack up the prices.)
Oh, and guess what????? There are NEW Croatian Groo!! No sooner do I
track down the 10 Yugoslavian Groos that came out in 1987-89 in a magazine
called SuperStrip Maxi, than I find about a new children's magazine called
Bum (pronounced Boom) that has Groo. Ahh!!
Oh, and the translators seemed to have trouble with the name "Groo" Half
the time it's translated as "Gru" and half the time it's translated as
"Gruu." It would have been interesting to see how they handled Epic #22
"Groo and the Ambassador" with Ambassador Gru.
Of course, things are a little linguistically strange over there from what
I've been told. The Croats and Serbs SPEAK the same language, which most
folks outside the area still call "Serbo-Croatian." They have a different
accent, but they can understand each other. But the Croats use the Roman
alphabet while the Serbs use the Cyrillic alphabet, so they don't WRITE the
language in the same way and street signs often have the same words in both
written languages. If this is wrong, hey, I only know what people over
there have written to me. (In English, with the Roman alphabet.)
Who says you can't learn something from reading Groo?
Bye for now and take care all-Gary G.
PS Larry!!!!!!! PLEASE come to San Diego. You said I should do the
thinking for us, well I've done a lot of it and it all adds up to you
getting on that plane. The Groopies need you. And if you don't get on that
plane, some day you'll regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but
soon and for the rest of your life. -Gary "Casablanca" Grossmann
