Hear hear Shane, Elie and Mark B!!! All valid points!
I agree wholeheartedly with Shane, because (I know many of you
have heard me sing this song over the years many many many times)
I consider myself a READER, and not a collector. I hate the
thought of Comic Book Coffins, funnybooks never to be read again?
Ooooooh, s-c-a-r-y!!!
So, hermetically sealing comics in plastic is called slabbing, is
it? i admit, a good idea for Action Comics #1 and other
valuables, I guess . Who knows what will be valuable to others in
the future? Maybe someday we'll all be kicking ourselves for not
slabbing IMPULSE #86! So Elie's counterpoint is also quite valid,
that grading standards are certainly good FOR THOSE WHO CARE
ABOUT THAT SORT OF THING. But of course, Elie still intends to
release his prisoners from the Comic Book Coffins and READ THEM,
so GOOD for HIM!
Me? I just want to read comics, and save them in good condition
so I can read them again and again and pass them on to nieces and
nephews who will also someday read them (I hope). I've bought
comics on ebay, and as long as they were readable, I could care
less if some kid played Tom Luth with his Crayolas!!! (Well, as
long as they didn't claim it was MINT, I don't believe that's a
Crayola color...)
