I don't know much beyond the fact that sergio is a reputed history buff when
it comes to groo's gear, and they have been constantly referred to as
kantanas in the letter page. What i do know is that the yellowish foam lying
around in surplus anywhere that opens boxes of instrumentation or large
electronics works perfect when cut in a long triangle and wrapped with
duct-tape. be warned that the tape won't stick to the foam, only to itself.
I made my daughter a pair for the same reason as jeff allen and it looked
great. i made a handle by finding a thin sheet of similar foam and
school-gluing it in a tube for the taped "blade" to slide into. the point is
twofold: 1.) you can really wale on peoples heads with foam swords, and 2.)
running the center of the tape width along the back and over the tip down
the front before and after covering the sides creates that ridge running up
the blade in most panels. good luck and happy Halloween.
