Hi all...
I've made a couple of Groo sightings on TV that I've been meaning to
mention for a while.
1) This one's slightly tenuous. In episode 21 of season 2 of "Angel"
(the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off), they introduce a character
called the Gruselag, who gets called "Groo" by all his friends. Like
our Groo, the Gruselag is a great warrior, good and kind-hearted, but
not really all that smart. (Unlike our Groo, he's a hero and champion
of the people, is clean and well-dressed, and doesn't have a dog.)
Admittedly, all this could just be a coincidence, but Buffy and Angel
creator Joss Whedon is known to be a *huge* comics fan, so it's
definitely possible, if not likely, that he knows of Sergio & Mark's
work, and named his character with the thought in mind of making some
kind of reference or tribute to our Groo. There's no way of being
sure about this without asking Mr Whedon himself though, so this
sighting remains unconfirmed.
2) This one is a definite Groo sighting. UK sitcom "Spaced", series
1, episode 5, about 3 minutes into the episode - there's a scene in a
comic book shop, and dead centre of the screen, sitting on the shelf
behind the two people talking, is a copy of the Death of Groo. I've
taken a couple of screen shots of it:

(Spaced is a very very funny series, although not all that easy to
find in the US - http://www.spaced-out.org.uk/ has lots of info about
it if you're interested.)
So for all those people who're asking for a Groo TV series, I guess
this is as close as you're going to get for a while...
That is all. I'm gonna go watch more TV now. :)
Cheers,
Denis.
