Way back when issue 100 came out from Marvel/Epic, Sergio, Mark, Stan,
and Tom all appeared together at a comic shop in California... I heard about
this in advance because the appearence was actually mentioned ahead of time
in The Comics Buyer's Guide, but living in Michigan I had little hope of
dropping everything and rushing out west to attend this great
occassion/get-together being held... I called the comic shop where it was to
be held and asked if they could make arrangements to have the whole Groo
crew sign issue 100 for me while they were there and then sell me the issue
by mail... Anyways, it worked (cost me $10.00 for the comic, handling, and
postage), it is the only issue I have autographed by the whole Groo crew as
well as the only autographes by Mark and Tom I have...
Now, the couple issues from Image that I have autographed by Sergio I
bought from some guy down south Virginia or Georgia or Kentucky (?), which I
bought through the mail from an add in CBG along with an autographed 8 X 10
photograph taken at the convention where the guy met Sergio. The Pacific
issues I have that are autographed I bought from a comic shop here in
Michigan as well as the autographed Famous Comic Book Creators card I have.
Sure, getting the stuff from the artist would be nice, but is not
always possible (at least not at an affordable price). I wish I could have
gotten one of those Image posters that was given out to anyone and everyone
in San Diego in "94 but were not available to anyone in Chicago two months
(one month?) earlier... Maybe if E-bay had been around back then, I could
have gotten one...
Personally, I've seen some pretty stupid items put up for sale on
E-bay, but they are far from the worse... Mark just mentioned selling items
through Amazon, who are a lot worse in my opinion... and anyone who has
tried to find an out of print paperback through them and found numerous
copies available but for some outrageous price (a worn copy of a $4.00
paperback for $60.00? give me a F#@king break...) not to mention that they
are idiots who repeatedly list inacuarate and/or non-existant items. E-bay
may not be perfect, but it isn't the worse...
