It's one of those jokes that has been around since before the internet
began, getting a new lease of life every time something happens that
lends itself to being used as a title for it.  I first saw it back in
the early 90s as part of a fortune cookie program on the unix computer
I as using in my after school job.  I think I once saw someone
attribute the original authoring of the quote to Mark Twain, but that
doesn't mean much, because pretty much every clever quote of uncertain
origin gets atrributed to Mark Twain at some point...
