Ah Scott, you have stumbled onto the end of a story that grew to epic
proportions. In the early years of this list several people posted
about the Groo miniatures and what possible chance there was of even
finding a set. They were produced under licence by a Company that
called themselves Dark Horse Miniatures which was made up of two
people. Alas they were no longer in business and could not be located.
I think Ruben was one of the people who attempted to track down the two
by doing an internet search by name. (it turned out one of the names
was misspelled in Groo-grams and the other one returned to Sweden or
someplace.) Again I think it was Ruben who lamented that probably the
only way most of us would ever see a miniature set was if someone found
a "Lost Crate" of them in the back room of some comic book store or
warehouse. A month or two later Tony Dodds, from Boise, posted that
the guy who made them lived right there in his town and he would ask
about them. It turned out that Wolfe had a couple of cartons of them
that had been returned from a bankrupt comic store and would sell one or
two sets to any member of the Groop at a real good price. There were
four different packs with various Groo figures (Groo, witch of Caan,
Arcadio, Sage, Mulch, Minstrel, Tarantowarrior, wench, a figure of
Sergio with a giant pencil [I may have missed a few]) in lead about and
inch or so high. The fifth pack was the dragon. (it was the cover
dragon from one of the real early comics. It came in about 5 pieces and
had to be assembled. ) He ran out of the dragon real early and some of
us never got one, although Wolfe thought there might be some in some
other cartons along with some Ninja Turtle minis. Sadly; shortly after
this Wolfe discovered eBay, and was soon getting up to $55 for a dragon
with lesser prices for the other packs. Now; the best chance of
finding them is to watch eBay and hope for a slow auction with other
Groo fanciers on vacation.
