M.E. talks of his limited experiences with Johnny Carson, and links to
a handful of Carson-related pieces, all of which do a better job
memorializing this icon of icons better than this mendicant could ever
hope, so I'll change the subject entirely.
Well, ALMOST entirely...
One of Mark's links is to a NY Times article printing the text of
Johnny's farewell monologue. Johnny's final words for his final
monologue were, apparently:
"We are going to show you a little excerpt of how the show is put
together, so go get some more cheese dip and we'll be back in just a
moment."
Ya know, outside of all these years of both Groo and The Groop I can't
say I've ever actually HEARD of Cheese Dip!
Is this specifically a California turn of phrase?
Oh, I've had various cheese spreads and cheese sauces, cheddar cheese
soup and other such stuff. I've had mucho French Onion Dip for my
Ruffles and Bean Dip for my tortillas, but have never personally
actually noticed a can or package or anything labelled "Cheese Dip."
So come clean, Groop, how many of you have NO direct experience calling
something "cheese dip" outside of Groo?
Anyone? Am I alone in this?
