Hi (again) Folks!
OK, here's the full story on the Groo line of clothes. Sergio never had a
garage full of them. The guys who had them made were an aspiring comic
artist, his wife, and a friend all of whom lived in Ojai and who worked at a
clothing company that had clothes with a lot of embroidery done
manufacturered overseas. So he arranged with Sergio to get this little line
of clothing manufactured. It consisted of
knit hats of several colors with little embroidered Rufferto
Baseball caps of several colors with the Groo Logo
Shirts of either blue or maroon with a Rufferto on the pocket
Shirts of either blue or maroon with the Groo logo on the pocket
Hooded sweatshirt with the "Groo Thinking" panel on it
Jackets of two styles and several colors with the Groo logo on the front and
Groo standing in front of the Groo Dragon (from the Epic #2 Cover) on the
back
The entire inventory was in this young man's garage. (Not Sergio's.) They
sold some mail order and they sold some at a San Diego Con. 1998, I think.
(or maybe 1999. I'm too lazy to check.) Part of the deal with Sergio was
that after the con they would turn all the unsold inventory over the Sergio.
There was not much left, and Sergio sold it at the next couple of Cons he
went to. I believe the last of it was sold at San Diego the following year.
That was it until...
A few years back one of the guys who had been involved with the manufacture
unearthed a very small stash of unsold hats and I believe one jacket, which
he promptly sold on ebay. I believe Dennis White and a couple other
Groopies picked up a few of the hats.
And that really was it. No more clothes, no plans for more, and no garages.
Sorry, but thems the breaks. Take care -Gary G.
(Oooo. Giving out more Groo historical information that only the truly
crazed know or care about! Boy did that feel good!!)
