Hi Folks!
Or more specifically, Folks who plan on going to the San Diego Con.
I have checked various hotels in San Diego and without the help of booking through the Con (which starts February 15) getting a reasonable rate is hopeless. The mid-range place I've stayed at recently, the Bristol, is already booked and they are NOT one of the hotels hooked up with the Con. The two low priced hotels in easy walking distance from the Con (Comfort Inn and Days Inn, normally about $90, have upped their rates about $250 per night, minimum 3 nights!!! I hope Groo stays there!!!
I guess this is the difference between the Con drawing 80-100,00 as opposed to a mere 60,000 a few years ago.
Even the Hostels have upped their prices from around $50 bucks a night to $80-90 (bathroom down the hall)
So your best bet for a decent room at a decent price is to go through the Con, which has apparently made a lot of deals with a lot of hotels to basically charge their regular prices. You cannot book a reservation before 9:00am PST, February 15th. My guess is by 9:15, all the rooms they have reserved in the various hotels will be gone. So I would suggest any of you who are going to have your dialing finger ready to go at the stroke of 9:00 PST next Wednesday!!!
By the way, there are some reasonable hotels on the list where three guys could split the cost and stay for $50-$70 bucks a night. I would be interested in hooking up with a couple guys for that kind of deal. (No Long Suffering Mrs. G. this year. Darn!)
So whose going anyway and what are your housing plans? (And Kaytee, I don't want to here it! hee-hee).
Take care all -Gary G.
