Well, of course the Production Diaries are very much like DVD extras
before the DVD is released. There is also a set of POST-Production
Diaries that will either be released the way the PDs were on DVD, or be
included in the Kong extras.
There is still plenty shot for extras beyond this, not to mention the
EXTENDED Edition we're all hoping for. I've heard from insiders that
there is quite a bit which was cut out that should never have been, the
areas where the film is weak are often covered here (like explaining
HOW Denaham knows the beast is called KONG! Duuuh... Just saying that
he heard the SkIIPs (Skull Island Indiginous Persons...) chanting
"Kong" doesn't explain enough. We need the classic line "Have you ever
heard of...Kong?" Hee hee!
I agree with Gary's assessment, there is much to nitpick and some
outright flaws, but it is QUITE a fun rollercoaster ride if you are
willing to be entertaiend without trying too hard to make a film about
a 50-ft. tall gorilla "make sense." (Hey, it would have been neat if
Denham had set up the line "Well, ,the airplanes got him" and had
Preston utter the closing "Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes, it was
Beauty killed the Beast." Or better yet, if we had more of an
Armstrong-worthy Carl Denham to begin with! I was fine with Black's
performance otherwise, just not the role as written for him)
.
Oh, and although the Beasts are never named in the movie, we NeuKong
Geeks call the Theropod dinosaurs" V. Rexes", for Vastatosaurus Rex, a
name coined by Weta Workshop meaning Ravager Lizard King.
