Ryan wrote an e-mail a few days ago about the upcoming Groo
movie causing the current and old comics and merchandise to become
expensive. I am not too worried about it for now, but I am certainly
trying to gather up as much of a full collection as I can. At the moment
I am primarily only missing about half a dozen items to finalize what I
consider a rather complete Groo collection (English printings only
though... Gary rocks of course due to his international collection!).
Like Ryan and most likely many of the Groop members, I am not
trying to profit from my Groo collection, but it might be nice to know I
have a thorough collection when eventual wanna-be Groo fans start
looking for the original stuff. Perhaps when the movie does come out I
will collect the other stuff, but gather it up in a separate box than my
older original stuff. That way if anyone sees my collection I can
immediately demonstrate my collection is composed of a majority of older
stuff than the new.
Can I make a proposal that Gary discontinue production and
issuing of any Groop membership cards once we start seeing official
movie ads? This way we will all know who is (AND WAS) an original Groo
fan. Of course this is dependent on Gary doing another run of Groop
membership cards <hint hint>. I have not been blessed with such a card.
:(
There is something else I have been thinking regarding the Groo
movie. In some of the Comic-Con posts it seems Sergio and Mark have
suggested they want to limit the violence. Does anyone know if the
intention is to make the Groo movie into much more of a family-friendly
comedy rather than a social commentary on the negative effects of
senseless violence? I have always thought of Groo as the idiot, who
taught me why violence is CLEARLY not wise through his own actions and
lack of thought.
Maybe I am older now and would rather not see a "kiddy" flick,
so I think I would like to see a wicked looking CG film. Also, I seem to
recall the color of blood at a certain point in the comic series being
reduced to just black ink rather than red because of both the sheer
volumes of gore from blood and the practicality of saving a few bucks
since it was cheaper to depict the blood in black ink rather than red.
...and it has been a number of days, but I also still not have
come up with a good voice-actor for Groo.
