Hi Folks!
OK, before I get into my Con Report, let me throw in my two cents on the various topics that have come up.
First off, I am not the leader of the Groop. No one is. I'm just the biggest nut case.
As far as the cards, I can't just crank them out. I have to have an order big enough to make the price per card reasonable. And since it's been a year since I last contacted the guys who made them, I'm not sure they will still have the template. If they don't and have to make a new one that will add to the cost. Which brings me to...
I agree with Larry, Chris, Kaytee, and all the others. Any new cards will be exactly like the first batch. In every detail. I'll get the numbers figured out. To make a distinction between new and old Groo fans is silly. And while part of being a Groo fan is being VERY silly, distinguishing between Groo fans would be a different kind of silly and we're just not going to have it.
Now about the movie: Guys, stop worrying!!! It will either be done right, i.e the way Sergio and Mark want it done, or it won't be done at all. Mark is a very industry savy, strong willed guy. Sergio is a business savy strong willed guy. I'd hate to be in an adversarial situation with either of them, let alone together. And to hear Mark tell it, its not an adversarial situation at all. He said at the panel that the movie people were in awe of Sergio. (As well they should be!) He said-in typical Mark fashion-that when the movie people make a suggestion or something and Mark dosen't like it they blow him off, but then Sergio says "No!" and they meekly back off. Now I'm sure he's exaggerating things in some ways to make it a funnier story, but I'm also sure the substance of the story is dead on.
And as far as the voices go, remember that Mark knows pretty much every good voice actor in the business and they all like and respect him. Also, last year Sergio said they would not hire a person for the person's name value. They would hire people who were good voice actors and whose voices are right for the part in their opinions (which are the only opinions that matter.) Sergio made the point (again, this was last year) that even though actor Craig T. Nelson is very well known, when he voiced Mr. Incredible you didn't watch the movie thinking that you were listening to Craig T. Nelson. So even if they hire a well known person, it will be because he has the right voice and voice acting ability. And no one knows that business better than Mark.
Now back to something silly. I hope the movie is a HUGE sucess. I hope it grosses big time and makes Sergio and Mark millionaires and creates millions of Groo fans and Josh has to add a new server (or whatever) to accomadate all the Groop Members!! This will entail a zillion items of Groo merchandise which will probably lead to me having to choose between retaining my title as Person(?) With Most Complete Groo Collection In the Universe and Beyoooooonnnnnddddd!!!!! or continuing to live with the Long Suffering Mrs. G. (Now don't anyone faint, but I'd chose the latter. Gasp!) But you know, if someone else ends up with the 8' fiberglass Groo statute that they make for the premier of the movie, I'll just have to learn to live with it. (I'll just make my own at of paper mache. So there!)
Con report eventually. How about some more Con reports from others?
Take care all -Gary G.
