Hi Again Tone,
John is right, you did open a can of mulch.
Just to put your mind at ease, there really isn't a Groo towel, although I
am looking at one at the moment. (That statement could only make sense to a
Groo fan.) But let me get to the other stuff first. I'l try to be short.
Yes, the jackets exist, but you can't get them. The jackets, hats, polo
shirts, sweatshirt, and baseball caps came out in very limited quantities in
the late 90's, produced by a young friend of Sergio's in the Ojai.
The lead miniatures have quite a little history, they still come up on ebay
occasionally and the dragon is hard to come by and they usually go for too
much money.
There are the regular cards, the inserted signed cards, which are
meaningless because Sergio has signed others, the 9 cards that are other
folks representation of Groo or Groo characters-which come up on ebay
occasionally, and then there are the Sketch cards. There were only 50 out
of the zillions of regular cards that were produced and a few Groopies have
them. But, uh, n-n-n-not me!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm not sure I can continue,
sob!)
(there is a story there too)
Okay, I'm better now. One has come up on ebay a couple times and they's
gone for $500 or more.
The other button beside the 6 cloisine pins is the little 20th anniversary
button. btw, when stuff like that comes up and is a freebie at the Con, I
always get a bunch of them and send to everyone so you don't have to buy
them on ebay. There were some buttons that most people don't even know
existed that were made by Sergio and his daughter and sold at the 1988 San
Diego con. I have never found one, but Sergio showed me the ones he has.
The Death/Life of Groo is a hardcover flip book (and the cover art was
actually from the Spanish version of the flip book that came out a few years
earlier. That brings up the International Groos, which I'll tell you about
in the next post.
Take care -Gary G.
