i would assume the manufacturers are free to do with them what they
will.
That is not correct. It should either have been turned over to Sergio
or destroyed.
has there been an outbreak of counterfeit cheese dip statues that i'm
not aware of?

Actually, they seem to be selling for below original list price when
they come up on ebay. There are many Groo fans, but most of us don't
seem to have much money. Could there be a connection? Hmm.....

Maybe. But I'm still suspicious. Where did it come from? And
does it in fact say "artist proof' on the bottom?

here's the wikipedia entry on "artists proof":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist's_proof
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist%27s_proof>
as far as i know, they artists proofs *are* legit; they
are done in advance of the rest of ltd runs - i actually have an
artists' proof of the first alex ross wb store plate, done about 10
years ago; i ordered one from a wb store, and they were unable to get
one, because it had just sold out. however, the store *was* able to get
me an artists' proof - it is identical in every way, except where it
says "number ___ of ____", it has the words "artist proof", instead of a
number.
i would say this item is on the up-and-up.

My knee jerk reaction is that it's a load of
crap.
Sergio did the scuplture. It's hard to believe
he would have left an 'artists' proof" out there.
The certificate is no big deal. It is equally
easy to lose it as it is to make one.
But the underside of each statue is numbered and
has a Groo logo. I would be really curious to see the stue and
especially what the underside looks like.
I take it this is not on ebay?

Hi Guys,
I am looking to buy a CHEESE DIP statue,
but they mention it is an "Artist proof" edition, this edition has no
certificate.
Does anyone have any info about "Artist
proof" Cheese dip statues? Are they worth buying?
Kind Regards,
Jason Smith
