Don't tour Okinawa, if this sort of thing bothers you.... Except for the 
fully booked golf and other Japanese resorts (some owned by big Japanese 
corporations-- for use by their employees), most of the tourist attractions are some 
sort of war memorial, and in case you somehow avoid these, there are smaller 
tributes at other sorts of tourist attractions. And family tombs are just about 
everywhere (whole hillsides sometimes ... look like small cities, except the 
horizon seems to be too close).
 
Mind you, these are not memorials just for dead politicians or soldiers, but 
also for schoolgirls ("Cave of Virgins") and the underground bunkers, etc., 
where the Imperial Japanese forces more or less directed their last campaigns 
against Allied forces (and the hillside where their officers committed suicide 
after the surrender).
