Tone:
No, I meant that the seller is obviously a Groo fan, even tho not a
part of the Groop. (Otherwise why would he have such a coveted Groo
item?) And also an artificially low price for the item (because two
folks who wanted it did not bid against each other) might keep a
second person from even putting his item up for auction at all.
(Far-fetched, I know.)
Sean and Womble:
The bidding rules only keep us from bidding up an item that is being
sold by a member of the Groop, in order to help him get a better
price. Ebay doesn't mind if we bid against our friends as a joke to
make them pay more (grin). But they do mind if we bid for things we
don't intend to buy. So if Tone says he's going to bid $100 for
something, and I decide to be cruel (ha), and bid $95, just to make
sure he spends all his money, and he changes his mind, I have to pay
that $95 - I can't back out and say "Oops, I didn't mean it." We can
kid around all we want, but if we bid, we have to be serious.
Everyone else:
Were there any Groo stories where Groo gets caught up in an auction?
I can see him walking thru the crowd and stretching his arms, and the
auctioneer taking that as a bid. Of course he has no money, so he
wouldn't be able to pay for it if he won.
