[Groop] 2009 Conventions

I compiled a list of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Comic and Gaming conventions for
a lovely and talented musician who is interested in playing her
Sci-Fi-themed music at conventions. I thought, hey, I've got this great
list, may as well share it with The Groop!

Now, although it lists major US national events, it has a decided East
Coast slant, since she is based here in NYC, so this is an incomplete
list. If there are major shows that I've missed listing I'd certainly
love to hear about it. If you yourself are involved with organizing an
event, let me know.

The artist's name is Erin Hill, she's a Rock and Roll Harpist, ya gotta
see her to believe her! This stunning redhead really rocks out with her
band, the Space Rats, and she's recording an album of Sci-Fi related
material, much of which I heard her perform in NYC last weekend. She's
got an incredible voice, is an extremely talented and focused musician,
and, well, when's the last time you heard a rock band fronted by a harp
player, huh? 

I first came across Erin while she was playing with The Fab Faux, the
ultimate Beatles Tribute Band which feature professional musicians like
Will Lee (David Letterman's band's bass player, the tall thin blond guy
with glasses), Jimmy Vivino (Conan O'Brien's band's lead guitarist) and
3 other equally talented musicians who have all recorded and toured
with music's top talents.

Anyway, Erin played harp on SHE'S LEAVING HOME and many other songs
from their Sgt. Pepper, White Album and Solo Years Shows, and she just
floored me!

Damn, this turned into an infomercial, my main point was to list the
Conventions, and I haven't even gone there yet, LOL!

Hey, this is probably a good place to hide my confession! As some of
you may have figured out, my "fight" with Mark was part of a joke that
fell flat. Basically, I was speaking with Mark about the Groop and
lamented that, although we've got some witty and interesting people on
the list, the postings have slowed to a trickle. I thought we should do
something to liven things up!

Well, I was thinking about some sort of silliness, a prank of some sort
or a contest, and Mark right away said "You should say I took a swing
at you!"

The idea was to come uo with a ludicrous reason for us to fight, and to
make a series of posts where our claims got wilder and wilder. Sadly,
Mark's workload caught up with him and he hasn't had a chance to
respond to my initial post. I've been hesitant to comment until he had
his chance at fun, but I know some of you took this seriously, and
since a week has gone by I wanted to let you all know that OF COURSE we
didn't really get into a fray!
