Hello, this is Chris McCollum from Garden Grove, who was shut out of San Diego this year after more that 20 years in a row, Groop member #1982 0052, Gary. Reporting from the Wonder Con in Aneheim. At the quick draw competion Friday at Wonder Con, I had asked Mark how Sergio was doing. Mark said to hold on, he would get to that during the panel. Sure enough, after explaining why Sergio couldn't be there due to his hospital stay(bad back) he called Sergio's bed side phoneand let us all listen in. Sergio sounded great and said he was envious of every one there, the place that he really wanted to be. Mark asked about his nurses and he said that he couldn't say too much because they brought him his food. Sergio said that he was doing much better and he was doing 2 pages a day from his hospital bed. He hoped to go home soon. I saw Stan Sakai on the con floor, and with Mark being there I think that there might have been a Groo panel if Sergio had been well. Scott Shaw! was there as
well. The Con was great on Friday, but by Saturday, the Hollywood crowd had arrived and the ballroom was almost impossible to get into. Other than that It was a very nice Con and so close to me that I had to go. I will miss San Diego though, even with all it's flaws. Chris McCollum

Someone was nice enough to post a youtube video of the Wondercon Quick Draw
Panel. The Sergio phone call cameo starts around the 12 min mark::

Mark gave Sergio at call from the Wonder Con during the quick draw panel.
He called Sergio's bed side phone and put him on the speaker system through
the room. Sergio sounded great! He said he was envious of everyone in the
room, and wished he was there.
-----------------
Give Mark a huge HELLO from the Groop if you see him again, and ask him to
send our warmest regards to Sergio!

One more thing about Wonder Con in Anaheim. This is the first con that I went to where I ended up watching girls volleyball. At the convention center, 3/4 ths of the floor space was being used by a club girls volley ball league. Maybe 50 games going on at once! All day and into the evening, for all 3 days. The admission was free, but they wouldn't let you in if you had a comic con badge on??! When I asked the door man why that was, he said that the parents were paranoid about their girls being around comic con members. If you take off your badge you can go in. It was funny to see in the hallways, the girls posing for pictures with the con guests, and the comic con guests posing for pictures for the volley ball players. I wonder what they would have thought if I had my "Did I Error?" t shirt on. Chris McCollum from Garden Grove

Hey Chris!
Sergio isn't still in the hospital. He's been out for quite a while.

Chris,
Thanks for the report. I wish I could have gotten out there this year. I
know SD is out of the question, but I would love try to meet up with
some of the Groop. Sergio was supposed to come to Boston in April, but
that was canceled. What are some of other shows people attend. Besides
SD & Wonder Con, I know Motor City and Baltimore. Also isn't there one
in Dallas? I've been down to Dragon*Con, but that not a comic show.
