Message-ID: Groopers and Groopies: HUZZAH! Just received issues 1-5 of the new GROO series 'Friends and Foes' for my birthday and am excited to finish reading them and begin a more in-depth discussion with the fine mendicants of the GROOP. After blazing through the first two installments, I have to say that I enjoy this series much more than many of the more recently released issues of GROO. For one thing, this new series seems much more fun and adventurous than some of the 'thematically heavier' issues released in previous years (I've always loved the 'moral' at the end of GROO, but for a while there, the comic veered dangerously close to being a bit too heavy-handed, or 'preachy', for my taste . . .). Indeed, for quite some time, I secretly wished to see more Groo in my GROO and (at least so far) it looks as if Sergio and Mark have delivered! Again I say, HUZZAH! Whilst we finish devouring the current issues, let's have a little fun. Respond to this thread, all ye who dare, by listing your top three (3) all-time favorite FRIENDS of Groo and your top three all-time favorite FOES of Groo . . . and by all means - don't shy away from mentioning some of the more obscure characters . . . My picks: Favorite 'Foes of Groo': The Great Wizard (issue #26), The Dragons (all five million of them, but notably the Floom-Floom from THE DEATH of GROO Special) and Arba (the tall, good-looking one - not the one that resembles Danny Devito . . .). Finalists for me included Isagul), issue #50's 'Las Sirenas', The Kantors of issue #8 and The Arana. And, though they were not my favorites, I really felt that the antagonists from THE LIFE OF GROO (King Battu and Gorge) made excellent (and worthy) foils for our hero barbarian. Favorite 'Friends of Groo' (though it's arguable whether or not any of the following would consider themselves 'friends'): In this order: Thaiis, Sylva (from THE DEATH of GROO Special) and (of course), Chakaal. Honorable mention: The Emperor Sakisama and Groo's Mother (aka: "Mrs. Smith") from THE LIFE OF GROO. Bonus Question: "What does the family name of 'Groo' mean?" I discovered and acquired a, 8.5" x 11" flier version of the Groo Pacific Promo Poster that Gary has deemed worthy of being on the list. I think it's from 1983. Hope you are all doing great. I just ordered the first 5 issues of Groo F&F and can't wait to read them when they arrive. They appear to be a throwback to the good ol' days and I'm super pumped. Kind of answers to various questions and also some thoughts: Funnies hasn't started up yet because Sergio hasn't had the time. He's bummed about that, but Funnies will be back and from Dark Horse. There will also be a Groo Archives, reprinting old Groo stuff and Groo art not seen by many, like original covers Spanish Groos and non-Groo publications. The guy that did the Usagi Yojimbo figures told me he still wants to do Groo figures, but Sergio hasn't heard from him. It's not a matter of funds needed. It's a matter of a manufacturer of X-type of promo product manufacturing one up tpo Sergio's standards and also paying Sergio an appropriate amount. (Kind of like the Groo Movie problem) And I agree, the sales figures are disappointing, at least to me. I'm wondering if there are a lot of folks like Mark Brown who didn't know about them. I don't know what they were expecting. I'm also wondering what the digital sales are. Maybe that's the difference. btw, I am loving Friends and Foes! Take care all, Gary G. What if some of these guys who actually have contact with Sergio asked him to donate something as a prize for a contest, or better yet a Groo funded kickstarter for something new and exciting (I'd like to see an actual posable Groo action figure)... OK, I am officially taking orders for the Groo vs. Conan Hardcover Con Exclusive. I think it will be about $5 domestic postage (media mail) and bubble envelope and maybe $10 international, so $35 & $40 should do it. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY YET. (But be ready to send it before the Con, which is only 2 weeks away) I've gone over the e-mails from the last week or so and so far the following folks have indicated they want one: Anil, Dieter, Sean Ferris, Shawn the Girl, Ronny H., Bruce S., David Graham, Alexander D., Andrew Reagan, Mike Skinner, Juan Carlos, Josh, and Tony Straub. If you are not on this list and want one let me know ASAP.
