Groo . . . </DIV>

<DIV>I apologize for not looking up (or knowing by heart) the issue numbers,
but my two favorite Groos are, in no particular order:</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>-the one with the puppet shows ("Hit him in the head! Hit him in
the head!"). That was the very first comic book I ever read. Not
long after Elie and I started dating, he gave it to me to read because he was
always reading comic books and wanted me to see what it was all about. I
was hooked. When I took it to Sergio to be signed, Sergio pointed
out the little details in the artwork he put in to reinforce the TV
allegory. Very cool.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>-the one where Groo has to take an iceberg to the desert and briefly goes
to Antarctica and spends a couple pages with the penguins, considering slaying
and barbecuing them. As you may have extrapolated from my email address
and blog title, I am a bit of a penguinphile, and, of course, the combination
of Groo and penguin made it an instant favorite. That is the other Groo
I asked Sergio to sign, and when I told him I like it because I collect
penguins, he started telling me all about his Antarctic penguin cruise.
We happened to have purchased Comics and Other Necessities of Life by ME
(artwork by Sergio) immediately prior to that conversation, and while we
talked penguins and Sergio signed the book, he started turning the
publisher's logo into a penguin head. Before I knew it, the entire title
page was covered with a penguin rookerie. I cannot overstate how quickly
Sergio can draw. I swear, I just blinked.</DIV>
