<DIV>Hi Folks!</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I believe Mark's answer to that question in the past has been something to
the effect that Groo doesn't know how old he is because he can't count.
Only the way Mark put it was funny. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Azamin, The National League started in 1876 and at least one
other league was started in the 1880's. They played for a "world
championship" for a few years and then the other league died. The
American League was started in 1901 and with two exceptions, what has always
been billed as the "World Series" had been played every year between the two
leagues. Although the term "World Series" was overly grandiose
language typical of the time, it was in many ways accurate because no one else
was playing the game at the time. It been "invented" ("evolved" would be
more accurate) and popularized over the second half of the 1800's in the US and
many of its most basic rules were not even in place until the turn of the
century. Of course now it is played in many, many countries, but no one
really disputes that the best teams in the world are the best teams in the Major
Leagues because all the best players want to play in the Major
Leagues because that's where all the money is. However, baseball
being baseball, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the best Japanese
team could upset the best Major League team in a best of seven series. Not
very likely, but not impossible. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>And I don't know who invented the concept of "The Curse of the Bambino" but
for those familiar with the history of the Red Sox, it's an easy concept to buy
into, even if you don't believe in curses. </DIV>
