Who here has played GROO: THE CARD GAME recently? I've managed
to get a whole bunch of Irish youths so addicted to the game that
they'll actually pass up a soccer match for the chance to play it
again (apparently they find the bumbling wanderer more
entertaining than a hat trick and an after-game bag of sweets).
And you know what else is weird? People I've played with in
California and Florida have been willing to give up their
first-born child in exchange for being allowed to discard that
damnable Minstrel card but the average Irish ten-year old? He'll
fight you for it!
I love this game. I had a set in high school and got a whole bunch
of people who had never even heard of Groo so addicted to it that
they wanted me to show up with my deck and hour before classes so
that we could play every day. Of course, this led to me sharing my
comic books, too :D After three issues, they started buying them so
that they didn't have to wait for me.
At some point I made the mistake of leaving my deck, expansion
included, on the windowsill and they got ruined by rain. i managed
to buy the core deck on ebay, but could not find the expansion for a
price I could afford. A few years ago, my husband's younger sisters
gave me the expansion as a gift. Best gift ever. I got them hooked.
They don't read much, and just look at my stack of comic books with
the skepticism of a cat looking at a bathtub, but they beg me to
pull my deck out so we can play. They aren't much competition, but
my husband plays and gives me a challenge.
Lessee... I want Chakkal, the Sage, and the orphanage! Muwahahaha!
