well admittedly i haven't spent much time in nyc for a long time (and
when i was home in nj over christmas, i was too busy hanging out with
family and friends to even think about going out to hear music), but i
would bet money that there are still plenty of good parties going on in
nyc....
obviously it takes a while to get the feel of a city and to find out
where the underground events are. and obviously there are wack clubs /
parties in every city (and la is certainly no exception to that rule)...
anyway i'm not going to profess to know where the good clubs in nyc are,
since i haven't lived out in that direction for quite some years. BUT i
think it's a bit drastic to say "forget it" w/r/t good music in ny.
after all, there are many, many talented artists who live in ny, and it
is one of the birthplaces of house music (please no flames from all you
midwesterners on the list :>).
asking around at some of the record stores (check the archives for
addresses and stuff) is a good way to find out about fun events, if you
can manage to ignore the usual record store attitude long enough to get
any useful information out of the employees.
