I have no quams with this argument. After spending over a month in NYC
this summer and into the fall. And hitting up sattelite, dance traxx,
throb, halcyon (?spelling) and asking everyone in those shops what the
haps are. I can say that no one had a single good sugestion. Even body
and soul was very lackluster. I would say 1 out of 8 tracks actually got
me moving. The most success I did have was at centrofly. I heard Derrick
Carter, Mark Grant, and Miguel Miggs (different days) and the music was
good but the crowd was the equivelent to a giant or hollywood athletic
club crowd. The best music I heard was at halcyon in brooklyn and that
is a small cofee shop that has open decks. I heard one guy playing really
good. I walked up to him and asked "Where can I hear music like this in
this city?" and he straight up told me "nowhere." As for NY I gave up on
the nightlife and found more fun walking around times square, soho, and
the village... record shopping is the bomb...
