This weekend was full of good talent in LA:
Friday- Wax crew at freethinking.. Kasey was rockin' it outside, playing
some really good rare stuff! Inside Juan and Chris were both playing
some really good tunes also, and the mixing was nice and smooth.
Saturday- Stopped by Downtown to see Benjamin warming things up, this
guy just gets better and better, lots of love put into his music. After
a quick flyer dropoff at the Joeski party we were off to see DJ Deep.
Got there right as he was going on and stayed for the whole set. He was
really good, keeping the tempo varied slightly, but still having the
dancefloor in his hands. Lots of good afro beat stuff that was really
nice to hear out for a change.. Props to the unionsoundsystem crew for
once AGAIN bringing out some fresh talent that proves to be good!!
Sunday- Deep with King Britt and DJ Yellow. King was blowin' it up when
we got there, a little pumpin' for my tastes, but still had the whole
crowd moving and he looked like he was having a great time. DJ Yellow
stepped up, kept it pumpin' for about 30min and then just dropped it
down to a really nice slow groove and rebuilt from there. From about
midnight on, I was just waiting for one song I didn't like so that I
could head out and get some needed rest. Needless to say that didn't
happen until about 1:30 and even then it was still TOO good, but I just
couldn't dance anymore. I had gone expecting a chill night and ended up
dancing non-stop and workin' up a sweat!! I would rate DJ Yellow in the
top 5 DJ's I've seen easily after witnessing his amazing track
selection, perfect programming, and wonderful mixing skill. He even let
2 or 3 songs play out throughout his set so he could start up again at a
different tempo/style and it would just work perfectly.
Highlights from his set: Love Sensation, Gypsy Woman, Dropping the
original Jill Scott track and mixing into the house remix, and some
others! :)
Get some rest, this upcoming weekend looks to be just as good!
Los Angeles is on fire.
