Spun played last. The line-up changed. You felt, what we all felt, Spun
rocked it well last night. I find it interesting that Rasoul produces jazzy
Guidance Records and the second song he DJ'd was the one that says "tear the
club up, tear the fucking club up". Producers make records, DJs play the
records. There is a big difference. Spun was proof of that.
peace and funky beats

Waitaminute?! What the hell *was* the line-up?
This was posted earlier and I assumed was the enacted sequence:
Rasoul (nakedmusic, soulfood recordings) 12am-130am
Spun (siesta recordings) 10pm-12am
Buck (leaf recordings) 130am-3am
Might have to reconsider who I was giving props to...
In any case, a great night of house music and a much needed release from the
pressures of work and la-la land. The factory reminded me of a (very)
upscale rave/wharehouse space. Tons of brushed metal and enough discoballs
to simulate the mothership landing. A little too dark and bassy for my
taste but still a fairly good venue with lots of room for grooving and
moving.
I thought spun (or the first guy on) was completely unispiring. Good
tracks, decent selection and smooth mixes, just taking absolutely no risks.
I wanted so desperately bad to grab him and shake him until he found the eq
on the mixing board. Rasoul came on next (I know this one is right) and
immediately picked things up. Played a great set of hard house that got
people moving. I'm always surprised when I hear rasoul live; he is one my
favorite producers but his selection live is fairly uninteresting and rarely
strays from the hard 909BD+high-hat+lotsoffiltereddisco veine of house.
Strange considering he has produced some of the most rythmicly complex and
soulful house I have ever heard. Buck (or at least I *thought* it was Buck)
finished up the night with one of the best sets I've heard in ages. Lots of
wierd-ass tracks with crazy congos being interestingly mixed. Great control
over levels (one of Rasoul's few failings) and a good level of energy
throughout.
Someone has to clear me up on this one. I decided who were one of my most
and least favorite house dj's last night and I might have it complete
opposite!
thanks,
jP
p.s. Where I come from Buck and Rasoul *are* superstars. You LAers should
have come out in droves of sunglass-wearing starlets and glamour-boys for
this one.
