what? you expect that someone has to play the same type of music they
make? rasoul has been producing records for quite a while (as has
buck), and has made records in a variety of different styles.
i personally wasn't that into most of his set (nor did i really expect
to be), but in any event, it's rediculous to expect someone to have a
particular style based on their records.
i don't think i'd ever make a record that said "tear the club up, tear
the fucking club up" (well ok maybe someday)... but i would definitely
PLAY a record that said that if i liked it.
djing is (almost by definition) about variety, and most of us
accordingly have fairly diverse / wide ranging taste in music.

i was going to post something to that effect, but i think it would be
better to say *most* people aren't great at both. some people are
pretty good at both, some people are really good at one and terrible at
the other.... etc. etc. it's more a continum than a hard and fast rule
(although if someone is a really wicked producer, i try not to go into
hearing them for the first time with too many expectations).
i've never heard françois k, but i know him to be an amazing producer
AND (from almost all accounts) an amazing dj as well. there are plenty
of people who are quite solid at both (since we're talking about this
party, buck comes to mind).

spun has produced a number of records (including central fire "this is a
shout going out" b/w "central fire" on twitch records), and some really
cool disco edits (most recently as "thick as thieves", with ben cook, of
triangle orchestra fame)...
if you haven't checked that one out yet, please do (it's a triple pack
on noid).
i'm not sure we are really disagreeing here at all, so sorry if this
comes across as argumentative.
