My opinion : Not worth $30.
Like Sara I realize the venue costs a LOT, but I personally would have
dropped Harvey from the lineup (I was not feeling him in the least...he was
all over the map, boring, and just wack) and gotten some better locals to
play (call me crazy, but Scott K isn't my cup o' tea whatsoever). But, the
back room was dope...Slick Dada and Zack really held it down and played some
great stuff. The 2nd room was alright, but I didn't spend much time in there
at all. Now, on to Mark...
I wish I could say that Farina was amazing, like I did when I saw him at
Release in July. But the huge crowd didn't seem to respond to anything but
remixes of songs they knew. After a slow start, he got right into a
groove...and his first hour was right up there with the time I saw him at
Release. Funky, creative mixing, and nice buildups. And then...he dropped an
insane remix of Michael Jackson's PYT...and the room EXPLODED. I haven't
seen a room go off like that at a house event for a very long time.
So right when I'm thinking it's getting good, and could possibly be the best
Farina set I've seen as he had 2 hours to go at that point, he started to
dumb it down, and play to the crowd. Which is fine, to a point...but his
mixing started to get rather uncreative and his track selection was
uninspiring. Maybe I just wasn't into it, but...I began to resent the fact I
paid $30 for the party. 2 remixes of Gossip Folks later, I took off at about
2:50am...I was tired after Harvey, and I wasn't very into Farina.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't leave on a bad note. He was playing some
awesome stuff...but his set took a dive after PYT.
The venue itself was awesome, and it was great to see such support for a big
house event in LA...but, I really resented the fact I paid $30...ESPECIALLY
when it was advertised as $25 at the door.
